How to Keep Your House Clean While Raising a 19th Month Old

I realize that this isn't ideal for everyone, but wanted to share a few things that I have found the be immensely helpful.
It was so frustrating to clean house during nap-time, only to find the house in worse condition than it started due to 'playtime.' Toys, tupperware, and toilet paper everywhere. I'd become so frustrated, I began to feel comfortable in this state of life.
It was so DISAPPOINTING.
I never wanted anyone over. I feared criticism when we did have anyone over. Really it wasn't pretty inside or out.
Did I mention we also have a Wheaton Terrier who LOVES to run around outside and bring in a load of foxtails.

My house was a mess to say the least.

1. Embrace the idea of decorating with decorative boxes and baskets. I have used this and find it to be a HUGE time saver. I have bins in Lil's room for toys and such, one in the living room for the same, one on the counter by our door filled with snacks I can stick in my bacg before leaving.

2. As you are walking around the house, pick up anything that you can. Even if it ends up in a pile. You can work from there and begin sorting things. It can become tricky, Lil loves to take her clothes out of her drawer and put them back in (sometimes). When she doesn't I just keeep putting them back and eventually she moves on to a different activity (The short attention span has it's perk).

3. Have them help. Lil loves the dishwasher and laundry. I don't have her play with the dishes and I always take the knives out, but she has fun playing with the door. Laundry is by far the trickiest. She loves to take the clothes out and put them all over the room. I let her choose a few and then I continue folding away from her reach. Once again, she usually moves on by the time I finish and I just pick up the few pieces and fold them. Putting them away is another story!

4. Use the high chair as a place for coloring. I strap Lil in and put down a piece of paper and crayons and let her color. I can then do a few things, dishes or sweeping. By the time she is done, I've had just enough time to tidy up.

I hope this helps. Share what ways you have occupied the kiddos to get cleaning done.

What's For Dinner Week 9

Well I'm back to meal planning. I like it too much. Even though we signed up for emeals, I'll be using it for new recipes, but we are not totally committing to it.

I love being creative and it's a control issue probably, but if I want my family to eat healthy, I've got to do it!

Here are this weeks meals (most from cookbooks I have around the house). I also used this book I picked up from the library:

No, we haven't taken the plunge to vegan, but I think that while trying to stay within a budget and eat healthy, you can't go wrong with veggies!!

This book has a wealth of yummy meals. Can't wait to share.

Monday: Braised Cabbage Rolls, hummus and pitas
Tuesday: Crockpot Teriyaki Pineapple Meatballs over Quinoa
Wednesday: Creamy Green Enchiladas
Thursday: Grilled Chicken and Wilted Spinach Salad with Spocy Peanut Dressing
Friday: Nachos
Saturday: Hot and Sour Noodles
Sunday: Family Dinner

Hope you have a wonderful week!!

What's For Dinner? Week 8

This will be my last week for meal planning. I'll still post the link up, despite its lacking popularity (hehehe). We just got a year subscription to Emeals.com
Emeals is an online tool that does meal planning for you. You just pick a plan (breakfast, lunch and dinner, lunch and dinner, or just dinner.) Than you can choose your diet (clean eating, paleo, low fat, natural and organic, low carb, classic, slow cooker). And you are sent a meal plan for the week as well as a grocery list. Its awesome!!! Some of the diets have an option to choose a grocery store where the meal plan is based on the store's on sale items.

I <3 eMeals

We first heard of emeals from Dave Ramsey, while we were going through Financial Peace University.
We are giving it a try because I am going back to work in August and meal planning, though fun, takes time. This will be so helpful. Plus I'm excited to try new meals.

Monday: Meatloaf and salad
Tuesday: Teriyaki Chicken Bowls
Wednesday: White bean Chili
Thursday: Grilled Chicken Salad
Friday: Burritos
Saturday: W. Y. C. F
Sunday: Family Dinner

Have a lovely week!!

What's For Dinner Week 4

Howdy Howdy!!

Hope you all had a great 4th of July!! I must say that BBQ is where it is at! I love BBQ!

This past week, meal planning didn't go well. I planned, but we were gone for the week and we didn't make most of the planned meals.

So I moved some of them to this week.

I wanted to give you a meal planning tip. It makes life so much easier to have a prep day. This includes cooking extra chicken, more rice, cutting veggies, grating cheese. I usually do this on Mondays after I have been to the store. You wouldn't believe how much time it saves me. Well let me tell you: LOADS!!

If you do one thing different this week. Try creating a food prep day!! It's life changing!

Monday: Pesto Grilled Chicken and Grilled Veggies
Tuesday: Portabella Mushroom Burgers
Wednesday: Salmon and Salad
Thursday: Pizza
Friday: Wraps
Saturday and Sunday: Vacation!!

I won't be posting a link up next week because we will be in Tahoe. I will have some of my favorite pinned ideas though!!

Have a lovely week!!

What I'm Loving: Organization Templates

Okay so I've been a bad blogger lately. Relying only on my book reviews and fitness posts. Byt my goal this week is to get back to blogging and share a bit more of my heart.

Until then.

This is what has been consuming my time.

Getting organized!!

I am definitely not an organizer by blood. I have to train myself.  The harder part of it is that I love the cute templates and can be very picky when it comes to finding the RIGHT planner.

I am hoping to make my own, but until then I found some of these sweet planners on pinterest.

WHERE did I say?!

YES, PINTEREST.

I've been really trying to not buy planners and journals. Which is extremely difficult for me. And if you know me, you understand the true sacrifice this is. :)

This week we started the Financial Peace University class at a local church nearby.

I am so STINKING excited about budgeting and getting organized.

That sounded really geeky...

But its so true. I have fully adjusted to housewife these days.

I enjoy the look of clean floors. Feel of fresh sheets, the smell of homemade goodness.

Any whoo..
Have you read anything by Dave Ramsey or taken his class?
