Book Review: Hell Bent

This was a very interesting read. Definitely different from the other books on fitness.
But I seriously couldn't put it down
(well except when I had to return it to the library before I finished :)

What could be more interesting than competitive yoga.
Yep, I said it Competitive Yoga?
Sounds like an oxymoron right?!
It kinda is. We believe that yoga is serious, serene, peaceful, rejuvenating.
But not intense, painful, rigid.
(so of you may:)
Lorr writes about this secret society of Backbenders that manipulate their bodies to do insane postures. They work religiously on their practice.
This book is mostly centered around the Bikram style of yoga.

Bikram is a very specific type of yoga. It is conducted in a 113 degree room (give or take a few degrees). It is 90 minutes of 26 postures.
I really enjoyed this portion of the book. Learning about Bikram and his type of yoga, his teaching, and his story.

I give this book a 4 out of 5 hearts.

A great read!! especially if you into yoga.

Yoga: Things I'm Loving

On this edition of Things I'm Loving, I'm sharing my favorite Yoga-esque things :)

...umm she is phenomenal. I love her yoga, both challenging and simple. She has great clean eating tips to. Please check her out. You will love her yoga classes. This one is my favorite:

Check her out on You Tube and Twitter

Yoga Mat
Hot Yoga
Chair Pose
This pose is a killer thigh/leg workout. I love it because it BURNS so good! There are a few variations I like also. Chair Pose on tippy toes or Twisting Chair Pose.
This pose is great for strengthening hip flexors, legs, and thighs.

Triangle Pose
When I first began yoga, I could do without this pose. All the yoga teachers repeated over and over how it was their favorite pose. WHAT?! It hurts and I really didn't believe I would ever enjoy it, but I do. I really do love any pose that works your hips, especially since giving birth :)
This pose is great for:
  • Stretches legs, muscles around the knee, ankle joints, hips, groin muscles, hamstrings, calves, shoulders, chest and spine
  • Strengthens legs, knees, ankles, abdominals, obliques and back
  • Stimulates function of abdominal organs
  • Relieves stress
  • Improves digestion and constipation
  • Helps to alleviate back pain and symptoms of menopause
  • Used therapeutically for anxiety, infertility, neck pain and sciatica

My Dream Job....

So about three years ago I began practicing yoga!! I loved it! I would go to two classes a day. I couldn't get enough.

If I haven't made it clear before, I am very competitive. That's why I love running so much.

Yoga is different though.

I can challenge myself but not feel like I have to be the best.

Sometimes that is difficult.

It's tricky sometimes to stay calm and quiet for just five minutes.
It's a real challenge.

Anyways, after practicing for about 6 months I decided I wanted to be a yoga instructor one day.

I thought it would be wonderful to be a part of someone's journey to health and happiness!! I loved the yoga instructors and what they taught me! I want to do that for someone!!

Well, not only is it expensive (about 2,500 buckaroos) it is also time consuming (between 200-500 hours).

I've been exploring some different options and I found one I think is doable.

In the spring of 2013, a local yoga studio is hosting a training over a long period of time.

The location is great.
The fact that it is weekends is great.
But the price is difficult.

So I need a plan.

I'm not depending on this date as an end all but I will definitely need more time.

So I just gotta find a way to make a few dollars.

I was thinking about opening an Etsy shop, but I don't have any talents worthy of being on there.

So please pray/hope/send good juju my way!! It would be a great way to feel like I'm contributing to society and be a SAHM.

We will wait and see!!

Do you have a dream job??
