Book Review: Secrets of a Baby Whisperer

I've been reading a lot of parenting books and I have found that they are easy to listen to on CD.
Secrets of a Baby Whisperer...
was a great book. Not my favorite, but it did have a lot of great points. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I was pregnant because it gave great tips on breast feeding and how to prepare for motherhood. Tracy Hogg's big thing is following the EASY plan. E for eating, A for activity, S for sleep and Y for you. I like that there incorporate you time into being a mother. She doesn't stand on one side or the other on scheduling babies, but she is a proponent for making sure that your baby's day is predictable. I really agree with this because as a teacher, I know the importance of predictability in schedules and how hard it is to be flexible, even as an adult.

She does mention not always solving your baby's cry with feeding, which I do and don't agree with. She says that it can confuse the baby's cues and when they are actually tired, the begin to cry as if they were hungry because they are used to feeding to sleep. I can understand this point, but Little Miss is so little right now and it isn't always that I have to feed her to sleep. I love the cuddles and napping with her. I'm sure that sounds selfish, but I think it is a HUGE part of bonding.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone pregnant or thinking about becoming a parent, and also to those who may not have a grasp on what kind of parent they want to become.  I already know that I stand on the side of attachment parenting, but it was good to hear that there are some things that I am doing a good job at...according to Hogg.

Next Mommy Read is Becoming Babywise..Dunh Dunh DUNH!!!
