Friday Favorites

This weeks I've got so many favorites. At home I been working with Lil on Art appreciation. This was a fun project week.

Loving my running community: Moms Run This Town. I feel so blessed with the community of this group. Being a momma can be so overwhelming, you become submerged in a culture where every move you make (or don't) is criticized and debated about. I found that this company of like minded moms has been such a great support system for us, plus I love running and being around women who understand that truly makes me feel accepted.

And HOORAY, it's Bikini Series Time. I've been following Tone It Up for 3 years now and have loved it so much. Karena and Katrina do a great job at creating fun and dynamic workouts that have made me as well as many other women stronger.

I recently was searching for some protein and I decided to buy some Vega Sport Protein. I've never enjoyed protein, the chalkiness taste is what I struggle with. Perfect Fit by Tone It Up is a great one also, but Vega Sport is easy to purchase as it is in stores. I've decided that combining it with milk and Nesquik (so silly, I know) seems make it more tolerable. I love Vega a lot because of its ability to nourish my body after a hard workout or run. Having a shake makes it easy for me to have a recovery shake.

My mid afternoon coffee drink has been my favorite. I fill my glass half up with milk, a few shakes of cinnamon, and the rest with coffee. Yum Yum!

Where do you find community?

Why I Can't Just Run

It seems that all I share about is my love for running. I know I'm obsessed. I never thought I was an outdoorsy kind of gal, but I crave hitting the pavement and rest days are SOOOOOOO difficult for me.

I've noticed that since having Lil and doing more weights/toning my running has gotten stronger. I will say it was its strongest when I was doing hot yoga daily. Stretching is key to avoiding injuries, but its easier said then done. I got a foam roller from Christmas and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It helps me stretch my muscles and gets me excited about stretching after running (I'm not sure that's possible, but it really works. You know how new running clothes make you faster. Like that!)

I've been working hard on staying strong and not skinny. I still have those nasty inner thoughts that tell me I need to be thinner, but you know that saying "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels." I think its wrong! Nothing feels as good as being STRONG! I love that I can throw Lil around, even though she's pushing close to 3o lbs (Way to go, LIL!!). I love that I can run and play with her.

This is another reason why I want to start some sort of mommy workout community. Accountability is so important to staying on top of your health. It's easy to let your mind ttrick you into one more cookie and a week away from the gym. But when you incorporate friendship and camaraderie, who can resist that?!

I think that's why I'm so inspired by the Tone It Up ladies. They have realized the importane of being a part of a loving, health centered community. And they make it fun!!

Anyway, as much as I love to run, I'm trying to find more of a balance in my fitness life.

However...did I mention that I'm training for a marathon...when will I learn?!

Do you have a fitness friend who keep you motivated? Who inspires you to stay healthy?

Fitness Friday Link Up: The First of 2014

Welcome 2014!
Last week we missed out on Fitness Friday. We were recovering from our trip to the ER. With that over, this week I've really stepped up my game in fitness. Maybe frustration, pent up anxiety, or just the new year, I'm sure motivated.
I decided to train for a marathon. Call me crazy, I know. I haven't even signed up for one, but want to try and train for one prior to planning for the next Hurley.:)
I've also decided to cut out added sugar from my diet. I need to start over because I ordered a Caramel Flan Frap from Starbucks. That is chalk full of sugar, but it was free. It hasn't been too hard to let go of sugar. I have frozen Craisins in the freezer for when I need a little something sweet.

Notice I said "ADDED" sugar. Sometimes there is just no way around it. I definitely pass up added sugar to my coffee, chocolate, candy. It may be my new outlook on fitness, but I really have taught myself how dangerous and destructive sugar is.

I also began using my Beach Babe video from Tone It Up. I love it. Great workouts. These ladies kept me fit after having a baby. And they now have a show on BRAVO. I'm so proud of them! Sometimes it feels like I know them...then I remember I don't :). Their exercises are fun and definitely impactful. I have gained a lot of support and community from participating in their workouts. You've gotta check them out!

Here was my week in Fitness:
Saturday: 8 mile run
Sunday: Beach Babe Sunset Stretch video, and 15 minute yoga workout by Atoning Yoga
Monday: 4 mile run, Full Barre workout
Tuesday: 6 mile tempo run, fine toning on Beach Babe
Wednesday: 5 mile run, Love your Total Body 2 by Tone it Up

Thursday: HIIT the Beach, Sunkissed Abs
Friday: 4 mile run, Barre

I hope that you are having a wonderful week in fitness! What is your favorite cardio activity?

The Top Fitness Apps

So now that you've decided to change your fitness/health, you're gonna need some accountability.

After reading this you may think I'm a bit of a nut. But I wanted to share my favorite fitness apps and why I've enjoyed them so much. I always puruse the App store hoping to find something new and exciting. Many of the times I try them out, but am not a fan of what they offer.
I do use the following three concurrently while on a run. They offer different things, as you'll find out and I can't help but enjoy all three.

Running/Fitness apps

Nike Running Plus

\
Pros:
This app is great for the competitor! You can challenge your friends, earn badges, and see how you stack up against your competition (your friends). This app provides a leaderboard, which ranks you and your friends for the month and week in both miles and times you ran. You can earn badges by doing different things (i.e., running on holidays, running a certain amount durring the month, etc). A new addition to this app is the Coach selection, which allows you to have a running plan, like a couch to 5k. I am currently doing the marathon one and so far I really appreciate it.

Cons:
The downside of this app is that it only tracks  your running. Boo!

Map My Run/Map My Fitness

I actually have both of these apps on my phone but only use one during my runs. Usually its the Map My Run. I love this app because it allows you map all sorts of fitness: running, yoga, zumba, walking, etc. And with that it also allows you to categorize your runs/walk/fitness. For excmple, under run, you can choose: easy, interval, race, sprints. The new layout is also really spiffy providing a more 3 dimensional view of your GPS. You can also sign up for challenges, earn badges and personal bests.

Cons:
It doesn't provide me enough of the competitive edge that Nike Plus does. But this is one of my favorites because of all it offers.

Charity Miles

Just get this app!! It allows you to raise money for your charity of choice each time you bike, run, or walk. How can you not want this app. Free money for a charity. It's like I'm fundraising as I'm sweating. I LOVE IT!!

Mind Body Connect
I've just recently starting going to yoga and received a gift card to a barre studio. This is a great app to schedule and make reservations at your local studio. However, the studio much have this booking system, but it is great. You can buy passes on this app and it keeps it in the system so that each time that you visit you don't have to enter your info. It will also sync with your calendar on your phone.

ARGUS

Argus is a great app as it tracks EVERYTHING. You can enter in your coffee, water, food, wine intake as well as your fitness. You can also record as you are running and walking. I like it because it tracks your steps and calories that you burn.
You can also set goals for drinking more water, walking more steps, getting more sleep. I lkie having goals...if you haven't noticed yet :)

Cons:
Sometimes it doesn't accurately count my steps or doesn't record my runs automatically as it says.

Every Move
Who wouldn't like to workout and earn prizes! I hope no one. I know that there is the popular DietBet, but I like this better because you aren't losing anything, except fat, and you get to choose your prize each time you meet your goal. You can link up your Nike App, Map my Run, Run Keeper, and several others, so it will automatically give you points without having to feel like its another app you have to log things into.

Blogilates

Cassey Ho is amazing if you haven't tried any of her videos. My favorite is Applause Arms and Call Me Maybe Squats. I like this app because it's easier to navigate than YouTube where you can subscribe to her channel. She has categories for her recipes and workouts. It's great if you just want to fit in a quick workout.

Tone It Up

If you struggle with accountability, this is the place to start. I LOVE Tone It Up!! They are wonderful women who started this grand adventure in fitness encouraging others and providing them with wonderful workouts that WORK! This has workouts, community chats, journal ability, as well as updates. Just a great overall fitness app that keeps you inspired to BURN!

How you enjoy and try one of these out. Which apps are at the top of your list?

Health and Fitness: Week 26

YEAH ANOTHER WEEK!!

Well...I'm back drinking coffee. Errrr....
Its really the feeling of luxury that it brings me.
It invites a spirit of rest, that I desperately need sometimes.
:)

I CANNOT MAKE COOKIES ANYMORE.
I have this good intention about making cookies and freezing them for an occasion when I don't have time.
But I end up eating them.
Self Control Hannah!!!

Coffee Talk

Howdy, ya'll...
It has been a busy week here at Hurley Love. Still trying to get our home into place. I've been trying to wake up a bit earlir to get back into blogging. I feel like August came and went and I regret not being more involved in the blogospere. Please forgive me..Thanks :)

I was doing #BeachWeek with Tone it Up, but Wednesday's workout kinda destroyed me. I was supposed to do stairs, but I did step ups (like stepping onto a ledge then back down). Well I did it for 4 mins and 5 intervals. That day I also walked/ran 9 miles!! Ooopsie!!
Here is the workout that I adjusted:

I also have lacked big time on responding on She Reads Truth!! I gotta get on that. I have loved and enjoyed reading Proverbs so much!!

However I have gotten to make Little Miss laugh a lot this week!! Always brings a smile to my face!

Werll I'm hoping to get out and do a mile jog today! Check my twitter to see if I did :)

Have a great Labor day weekend!!

What's New Scooby Doo?

I feel like it has been a while since I have written what is going on in my life. So here I go.

What's New Scooby Doo?

Well...we are currently almost moved in. This weekend we will be getting our couch and a nice rug for the living room.
I have been enjoying much needed time with my mommy group and we have moved toward doing walks in the morning. It has been nice to just walk and talk with like minded mommies. I can't believe before long I will have a toddler.

Little Miss has found her voice and I love hearing her coo and blabber. Hubby and I make up stories that she is saying. I'd really LOVE to know what she is actually saying.
This week she also started wearing size 3 diapers...oh my...she is growing too fast.

I have been doing relatively well with my reading with She Reads Truth. We are currently in Proverbs. It has really helped me to realize how much I love to gossip and keep bringing up other people's business. It really is sick that I find pleasure in rehashing out issues. But admitting it is the first part, right? This will definitely be something that  I continue to work through. I find myself bringing up pain from the past just to filter and play with it, why?! I don't know. I'm not bored, but it would appear that I am. I need to remember to read Proverbs when I am struggling with an issue as it tends to bring up great advice. I mean the whole book is on wisdom and folly.

I've been doing a lot more with Tone It Up. I love their workouts and they sure do work! My favorite is the Barre workout with Renee. I keep reminding myself that not everyone gets the chance to birth a baby and I really need to be great-full for that. I love that I can still run and workout and be healthy.

Thanks for reading!!!
